LANAO DEL SUR ---- Two policemen deployed in this province as punishment for their alleged criminal activities outside were nabbed and locked in jail Thursday for extortion.

Master Sgt. Erwin Amarellento Piquero and Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Romero Fabros of the municipal police office in Wao, Lanao del Sur fell in an entrapment laid by their companions and officials of the provincial police office, acting on a complaint by a Meranao resident named Laut Madale.

They were caught in the act of receiving P50,000 cash from Madale, whose son, Ibrahim, they threatened to prosecute for illegal possession of a .45 caliber pistol.

Col. Madzgani Mukaram, director of the Lanao del Sur provincial police, said Friday the firearm they were to use as evidence against Ibrahim was recovered in his house that Piquero and Fabros searched without any warrant from a court.

The search was done without permission from the Wao municipal police chief either.

Mukaram said the two policemen have asked for P100,000 cash from Ibrahim for them to drop the illegal firearm possession case they were to file against him.

Ibrahim immediately sought the help of the police when Piquero and Fabros agreed to lower their demand to P50,000 and set the time and place for the payoff.
Mukaram said the two policemen are now detained, to be prosecuted for their offense.

“We don’t tolerate any misbehavior of our men. Two rotten tomatoes should not affect the better tomatoes in the group,” Mukaram said Friday.

He said he is thankful to the Madale family for reporting the extortion plot of Piquero and Fabros.

Piquero and Fabros, originally assigned at the Cebu City police under the Police Regional Office-7 and in Rizal under PRO-4, respectively, were deployed in Lanao del Sur as punishment after having been implicated in drug trafficking activities there.

Mukaram said the operation that resulted in their arrest was assisted by the Bangsamoro regional police office and the Counter Intelligence Task Force in the central headquarters of the Philippine National Police in Camp Crame.
