BONGAO, Tawi-Tawi – Close to 150 homes were damaged by Tropical Depression Marilyn that hit the islands here on Friday and Saturday, local officials said.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMO) said a total of 144 homes were partially and totally damaged by the strong wind and huge waves that hit the towns of Bongao, Simunul and Tandubas.

Bongao has the highest number of damaged homes with 143 followed by Tandubas with eight and Simunul two.

Tawi-Tawi Provincial Administrator Hadjimar Matba quickly convened the PDRRMC and the MDRRMC so coordinated action can be taken to ensure affected families are attended to.

As of Saturday afternoon, the provincial government of Tawi-Tawi prepared and delivered relief packs to the families affected by the tropical depression "Marilyn" that destroyed houses in the coastal areas of Bongao.

The relief operation was an initial intervention of the PLGU to augment the needs of those who are now in the evacuation center, according to administrator Matba.

Matba said no less than the provincial department heads and the employees served as volunteers in delivering goods during the relief operation.
