Communist rebels yield to government last year get aid from provincial government.

TACURONG CITY - “No reds allowed” as the ten Municipalities and one city in the province of Sultan Kudarat declared New Peoples Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines – National Democratic Front as “persona non grata.”

The local government of Columbio, Sultan Kudarat was the 10th municipality that passed a resolution to disallow the rebel group and their wing members in town.

Sultan Kudarat Governor Suharto T. Mangudadatu said he was hoping with these declarations, bloodshed will cease in his province for he has seen it enough in the past.

He said Army versus NPAs skirmishes should be stopped.

“We should stop this, and we have to focus on how we develop our people in the area, it should stop and we have to unite our efforst,” Mangudadatu emphasized in the monthly meeting of Region Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELAC).

Thirty percent of Sultan Kudarat is comprised of indigenous Peoples population and about 30,000 hectares of the province are occupied by IPs.

In the latest activity of Sultan Kudarat, seven former rebels became members of para-military troops under the 33rd Infantry Battalion.

About 23 former rebels are also undergoing skills training by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA-12).

TESDA Director General Secretary Isidro S. Lapeña assured that necessary support will be given to Sultan Kudarat.

“We will unite our efforts for the province of sultan Kudarat and other provinces in the region to end the communist activities,” Lapena said. (KMT)
