Iqbal declares 1st Palarong BARMMAA a success

UPI, Maguindanao - Minister Mohager Iqbal of the Bangsamoro Government's Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE) declared the region's 1st athletic event a success and said it was an addition to the Bangsamoro's list of milestones and achievements.

On Tuesday, January 21, Iqbal led the closing ceremony of the 1st annual Palarong Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Athletics Association (BARMMAA) at the Nuro Central Elementary School in Nuro, Upi, Maguindanao.

No regional eliminations for Batang Pinoy in 2020

KIDAPAWAN CITY - After huge expenditures in the 30th South East Asian Games PH 2019 the the Philippines hosted in December, there will be no regional qualifying meet for Batang Pinoy due to lack of funds of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), a PSC officials today said. 

Batang Pinoy and Philippine National Games will directly have finals and be staged at once at the newly renovated Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Manila and Philippine Sports Complex, Pasig City.

Isabela City’s SEA Games medalist hailed

COTABATO CITY --- He was honored for having brought home fame and honor.

Who is he? Joel Villanueva Delos Reyes, who won a silver medal in a duathlon event in the recent South East Asian (SEA) Games.

He was lauded by local officials and honored with cash gifts from Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman of Isabela City in Basilan and the lone congressional representative in the island province, Deputy Speaker Mujiv Hataman during a big gathering this week.

PH men's volleyball team demolished Thailand, faces Indonesia for gold on Dec. 10

MANILA - The Philippine men's volleyball team today demolished defending SEA Games champion Thailand in five sets and earned the slot for gold against Indonesia.

Thailand was up in the first four sets until the Philippines, led by  team stars Marck Espejo, Bryan Bagunas and the fast-rising Joshua Retamar turned the tide against the defending champion through tough defense and fluid offense to earned the right to fight the Indons.

City chief exec leading Isabela's ZamPen meet contingent

COTABATO CITY --- This is something another first again.

The 1st termer mayor of Isabela City, Sitti Djalia Turabin Hataman, again set a precedent Sunday when by leading their delegation to the launching in Dipolog City of the Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Athletic Meet.

The gesture was meant to manifest her solidarity with athletes from the city’s more than 40 barangays, according to city administrator Joel Zanoria.

It was something former local officials in Isabela City never did.

No security threats on SEA Games: AFP spox

MANILA -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said on Thursday it has yet to detect any security threats that might possibly mar the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games from November 30 to December 11.

"So far, there are no monitor threats (on the SEA Games)," AFP spokesperson, Marine Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said in Filipino during interview over Radyo Pilipinas 1's "Operation Lokal".

P6.5 M budget for Isabela City contingent to ZamPen meet

COTABATO CITY --- The Isabela City government has allocated a bigger budget for its contingent to the 2019 Zamboanga Peninsula (ZamPen) Regional Athletic Meet.

The amount, P6.5 million, almost doubled the yearly allocations in preceding years.

Isabela City is in Basilan province that also covers Lamitan City, its capital, and 11 municipalities that are now markedly rising fast from underdevelopment due to armed conflicts.

Basilan hosting MPBL basketball matches

COTABATO CITY --- All is set for the November 16 commencement of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) matches in Basilan, meant to show that there is peace now in the island province.

The basketball games will involve teams from different regions in the country.

In a statement Wednesday, the office of Gov. Jim Salliman said security measures are now in place to ensure the safety of the event.
