Duterte calls on North Cotabato tremor victims to carry on

NORTH COTABATO --- President Rodrigo Duterte urged residents of North Cotabato towns devastated by earthquakes from between October 16 to December 15 to carry on and assured them of Malacañang’s rehabilitation support.

Duterte, while in Mlang town in North Cotabato on Monday, also distributed fiscal grants to local government units in earthquake-stricken towns to complement municipal relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Pres. Duterte visits North Cotabato, aids quake victims

MLANG, North Cotabato  – President Duterte today distributed food aid and financial assistance to earthquake victims here and those from other parts of North Cotabato.

Pres. Duterte flew in here Monday morning after leading the wreath-laying at Rizal Park of Davao City earlier.

The distribution program was held at the Mlang National High School covered court.

Marijuana leaves found at Pagalungan-Datu Montawal border

COTABATO CITY --- Combined police and Army personnel seized Sunday a sack of marijuana leaves found in an open field at the border of Maguindanao’s adjoining Datu Montawal and Pagalungan towns.

Col. Arnold Santiago of the Maguindanao provincial police said Monday the operation that led to the confiscation of the marijuana leaves was a joint initiative of the police stations in both municipalities, the Army’s 7th Infantry Battalion and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

All is set for Pres. Duterte's visit to Mlang, North Cotabato

MLANG, North Cotabato — All is set for the visit of President Rodrigo Duterte here and in Padada, Davao del Sur today to distribute checks and financial assistance to residents affected by the series of earthquakes that rocked the province last October and November.

North Cotabato Gov. Nancy Catamco said the President is expected at about lunch time in Mlang where more than 100 quake victims are waiting. They were residents of Mlang, Makilala and Tulunan who lost their homes due to the tremors.

Manobo children benefit from 38th IB mission

COTABATO CITY --- More than a hundred ethnic Manobo grade school children benefited from an outreach mission of the Army’s 38th Infantry Battalion in Pigcawayan town on Christmas Eve.

The initiative, led by Major Welbin Beda of the Foxtrot Company of 38th IB, was assisted by local benefactors and municipal officials.

Soldiers provided children in Barangay Renibon, Pigcawayan with school supplies and drawing books, according to the Division Public Affairs Office of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division.

Accrding to PAG-ASA, the partial eclipse started to appear in Balut island in Davao Occidental at 12:43 p.m. 

The cresent moon-like eclipse was visible in Cotabato City and Maguindanao for about five minutes but the near perfect "ring of fire" solar eclipse was reportedly visible in Sarangani and Davao Occidental.

PAGASA said it has never been witnessed in the country in the past 75 years.

P300K worth shabu seized from trafficker

MAGUINDANAO --- Police personnel in Pagalungan town foiled on Christmas Day an attempt to smuggle P300,000 worth of shabu to a nearby town in North Cotabato.

Col. Arnold Santiago, director of the Maguindanao provincial police, said Thursday members of the Pagalungan municipal police are now in custody of drug trafficker JC Castillo Mendoza from whom they seized the shabu he was to deliver to a contact in North Cotabato province.

Santiago, however, declined to reveal the accomplices of the suspects and the source of the drugs pending outcome of follow up operations.

Duterte to visit kids with cancer in Davao

DAVAO CITY – President Rodrigo Duterte will not end the year without visiting the cancer-stricken kids at the House of Hope here, an official said Wednesday.

In an interview, Senator Christopher Lawrence Go said the President will be visiting the facility on December 28, three days after Christmas day.

Go said that it has been 18 years since its establishment, and Duterte allotted his time every year to celebrate Christmas with the kids.

Go said Duterte will be interacting with the children and their parents as well as give gifts.

Maguindanao town vice mayor ambushed, critically hurt

SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao  – Unidentified gunmen riding on motorbike ambushed Tuesday Vice Mayor Akmad M. Ampatuan of Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao, police said today.

Vice Mayor Ampatuan was on board a red Toyota Innova vehicle (LFT-737) heading for home from the town hall when the suspects opened fire at past 1 p.m. along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion.
