Minor arrested for alleged arson attack

NORTH COTABATO --- Authorities arrested today a 12 year old boy tagged in the burning of seven houses and establishments in different sites in Kabacan town before dawn Monday.

The child is now in the joint custody of the Kabacan municipal police and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

He was seen by witnesses roaming suspiciously, carrying a plastic container, around the houses and roadside stores razed by fire one after another from between midnight Sunday and until before dawn Monday.


MILF official killed in North Cotabato gun attack

NORTH COTABATO --- The Moro Islamic Liberation Front lost a senior leader in an ambush in Matalam town Tuesday.

Kagui Mansor Imbong, a ranking official in the MILF’s 108th Base Command, was on a motorcycle when he was attacked by gunmen while motoring through a busy road in Barangay Elian in Matalam, North Cotabato.

He died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds.

NGCP, Cotabato Light announce hour-long franchise wide- power service interruption

COTABATO CITY -- The whole franchise area of Cotabato Light and Power Company (Cotabato Light) will experience one hour power interruption Sunday morning and another one hour interruption late this afternoon.

In a statement, the Cotabato Light said the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will transfer load from Nuling substation to Tacurong substation to facilitate various maintenance activities in its transmission lines.


Experts: Mt. Apo isn't erupting after earthquakes

NORTH COTABATO  --- Experts on Friday allayed fears of an eruption of the Mt. Apo volcano following the recent earthquakes that jolted this province, something the local communities are so scared of.

Hermes Daquipa of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said, during a dialogue Friday with representatives from the Mines and Goesciences Bureau and provincial officials led by Gov. Nancy Catamco, that while the volcano on top of Mt. Apo is active, it does not contain magma that can flow down to villages along mountainsides.


“Reds” no longer allowed in SK

TACURONG CITY - “No reds allowed” as the ten Municipalities and one city in the province of Sultan Kudarat declared New Peoples Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines – National Democratic Front as “persona non grata.”

The local government of Columbio, Sultan Kudarat was the 10th municipality that passed a resolution to disallow the rebel group and their wing members in town.


Evacuees may now return home as aftershocks count down, says Phivolcs, MGB

KIDAPAWAN CITY - Evacuees hailed from areas not considered as high risk can now return to their respective homes. 

This was announced by Melvin Sebua, chief of Cotabato Field Office of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of DENR-12 during an inter-agency and sectoral consultations at the North Cotabato provincial capitol called for by Gov. Nancy Catamco.

The meeting was aimed at unifying all efforts of affected Local Government Units and other concerned agencies in helping the victims of recent earthquake.


Man tosses grenade toward soldiers in a roadside eatery but explosive a dud

COTABATO CITY -- MASWERTENG hindi sumabog ang isang granada na inihagis sa bubong ng isang carenderia kagabi sa Sinsuat Avenue, Barangay Rosary Heights 6, Cotabato City kung saan merong mga sundalo bilang customers.

Sinabi ni Police Station 2 Chief Major Rustom Pastolero na pasado alas siete kagabi nang magtungo sa naturang carenderia ang Army Special Forces Team upang kunin ang kanilang inorder na pagkain.

Gayunman, bigla na lamang silang nakarinig ng lagabog sa bubong ng kainan at kasunod nito ay bumagsak ang isang granada na wala ng safety pin sa gilid ng kalsada.


Man pinned to death in a cement mixer in Maguindanao

SULTAN KUDARAT, Maguindanao - Nasawi ang isang obrero na menor de edad habang nasa loob ito ng isang mixer cement truck na naglilinis makaraang paandarin ng kasama nito ang nasabing sasakyan sa Barangay Sandakan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao kaninang umaga.

Kinilala ang nasawi na si Datu Ali Acob, 19-anyos at residente ng barangay Dalumangcob sa bayan ng Sultan Kudarat sa nasabing lalawigan.

Sa ulat ng pulisya, posibleng umanong hindi namalayan ng driver na naka on din pala ang plangka ng cement mixer.


Villagers dislocated by hostilities in Maguindanao

MAGUINDANAO --- Hundreds of families were dislocated by the clashes this week between the Dawlah Islamiya and units of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division.

The Dawlah Islamiya terror group, also known as the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, is using the flag of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria as banner.
