Off-duty soldier slain in Maguindanao ambush

SULTAN KUDARAT, Maguindnaao  – Unidentified gunmen riding tandem on motorbike shot dead Sunday afternoon an off duty soldier along the national highway in Barangay Rebuken here, police said.

Major Julhamin Asdani, Sultan Kudarat municipal police chief, identified the victim as Army Corporal James Earl Maquinto, 31, assigned with the 6th Infantry Division but lives in Pigcawayan, Cotabato province.

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) is coordinating with the National Bureau  of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to effect the immediate arrest of Dante Tabusares, the alleged mastermind in the killing of Brigada News FM anchor Eduardo Dizon in July last year.


Arrest warrant for alleged mastermind of broadcaster's ambush out

KIDAPAWAN CITY --- A court has finally issued a warrant for the arrest of the alleged main plotter of the fatal ambush here last year of a radio commentator hostile to the controversial KAPA investment scheme. 

Dante Encarnacion Tabusares, alias Bong Encarnacion, is now subject of a joint police-military manhunt.

The warrant for his arrest was issued by Judge Henelinda Molina-Diaz of the Regional Trial Court 12th Judicial Region Branch here last January 15, but copies were released to the police and media only on Saturday.


Maguindanao blast kills 2 children


COTABATO CITY  – Two children were killed in an explosion in Sultan Mastura town in Maguindanao Saturday afternoon, police said.

Major Bangon Mamako, police chief of Sultan Mastural municipal police office, said the explosion occurred at 2:30 in the afternoon Saturday near a house in Sitio Santillano, Barangay Macaviso that critically injured two children.

IN his report to Maguindanao police director Colonel Arnold Santiago, Mamako said the children were identified as Daniel Amora, 7 years old and Omar Amilol, 5, both residents of Barangay Macaviso.


32 hurt as jeepney falls into ravine in GenSan

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- At least 32 people were injured on Saturday morning after a passenger jeepney fell into a ravine in an outskirt village here.

Dr. Agripino Dacera Jr., head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), said the jeepney was traversing a road going downhill in Purok Balakayo, Barangay Olympog when the accident happened around 7.40 a.m.

Dacera said the loaded jeepney reportedly lost control while passing by a blind curve and overshot the road, falling about 40 feet down.

Mlang mayor officiates mass wedding to 49 couples

MLANG, North Cotabato -- At least 49 pairs of couples on Friday tied the knot in a mass wedding facilitated and sponsored by the local government unit here. 

Mayor Russel M. Abonado, administered the civil rites held at the municipal gymnasium and witnessed by the couples' parents, relatives and friends. 

Mayor Abonado said the civil wedding will legally recognize the union of all wedded couples. 

This will also serve as thier tools to avail the government services such as the Philhealth, 4P's programs and other programs and projects of the LGU. 


Cops uproot some P400k worth of marijuana plants in SoCot-SK borders

TAMPAKAN, South Cotabato – Close to 10,000 fully grown marijuana plants, estimated to cost more than P400,000, were uprooted by police authorities in the borders of South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat on Thursday.

Captain Joseph Villanueva, police chief of Tampakan, South Cotabato, said the marijuana plants were found in Sitio Alyong, Barangay Danlag, Tampakan, South Cotabato and Sitio Lamalis, Barangay Datal Blao, Columbio, Sultan Kudarat.


Senior citizen dies, boy hurt during magnitude 4.3 quake in NoCot

KIDAPAWAN CITY --A senior citizen who was visiting a relative in Mlang, North Cotabato on Thursday suffered cardiac and died arrest after the magnitude 4.3 quake rocked North Cotabato.

Engineer Arnulfo Villaruz, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) operation chief, identified the victim as Romualdo Vicente, 65 years old, a resident of Sultan Kudarat.


PDEA, cops arrest woman peddling illegal drugs in Tacurong City

TACURONG CITY  – Police and anti-narcotic agents arrested here Wednesday morning a woman who was known for peddling illegal drugs in the city.

Director Naravy Duquiatan of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 12 and Lt. Colonel Rey Egos, Tacurong City police director, led the 7 a.m. law enforcement operation that led to the arrest of Christy Pagales in Barangay New Isabela, Tacurong City.

“Pagales is a target-listed personality of PDEA-12 for her involvement in peddling illegal drugs in Tacurong City,” Duquiatan said.
