New Malaysian peace monitors to arrive Monday

COTABATO CITY -- A new contingent of Malaysian peacekeepers will replace on Monday their outgoing compatriots after observing for a year the enforcement of the ceasefire accord between Malacañang and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).The incoming group of foreign ceasefire observers, the International Monitoring Team (IMT) 11, is led by Major Gen. Datuk Wira Zamrose Bin Mohd Zain of the Malaysian Royal Armed Forces.Zain and is men will replace the IMT 10, under Major Gen.

Midsayap cops arrest big fish in illegal drug trade

MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato -- Police arrested here Friday a man believed to be big time” illegal drug supplier in North Cotabato’s first district, police said.Superintendent Tom Tuzon, Midsayap town police chief, identified the suspect as Sucat Palakat Esmael, 39, of Barangay Balakayon, Pigcawayan, North Cotabato.Tuzon said police agents have received information from a concerned citizen about the supposed drug dealing activities of Esmael in PALMA area.PALMA area stands for the adjoining towns of Pigcawayan, Alamada, Libungan, Midsayap and Aleosan in North Cotabato’s first district.

North Cotabato cops fence NGCP tower to prevent bombings

ALEOSAN, North Cotabato –- As preventive measures against attacks on steel towers of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), police authorities here have fenced the structure using indigenous materials. This is our contribution, this is also community efforts to spare us from brownouts,” Senior Inspector Jun Napat, Aleosan town police chief, said. Napat said so far two NGCP steel towers have been fenced by bamboo poles with barbed wire to bar lawless elements from putting improvised bombs. These are NGPC Towers 63 and 68.

Cotabato village chair faces illegal gun, grenade possession charges

COTABATO CITY – A village official is now facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and violation of election gun ban law.This after the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (CIDG-ARMM), backed by police and Army Special Forces, raided the house of Joven Pangilan, village chair of Barangay Tamontaka 2, Cotabato City Friday morning.Also arrested during the raid were Dodong Pangilan and Usop Kapenda, the chair's relatives.The raiding team seized an unlicensedfirearm and hand grenade.

Koronadal power plant worker falls, dies

KORONADAL CITY - A worker of a bunker fuel power plant under construction here has died after he accidentally fell despite his safety gears, police said today.Senior Supt. Barney Condes, Koronadal City police director, identified the victim as Jolie Denson, 26, of Barangay Paraiso, Koronadal City.Condes said Denson works as electrical assistant of Supreme Power owned bunker fuel plant in Barangay Paraiso. Analuz Denson, the victim's mother, told DXOM-AM Radyo Bida that a company representative informed her at about 9 a.m. that her son figured in an accident.

Firemen, volunteers injured in Marawi road accident

MARAWI CITY --- Four members of the city’s fire bureau and two volunteers were badly injured Wednesday when their fire truck crashed while responding to a conflagration in nearby Ditsaan-Ramain town.Superintendent Adam Guiamad, director of the Bureau of Fire Protection in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said the victims are now confined in a hospital.Adam identified the injured BFP personnel as Dipangampongan Borar, Mubarak Macalawi, Cardawi Pao and Mofid Pakir.Also injured were fire volunteers named Jamal Lomondot and Amir Mamayandog.The victims sustained fractures and head injur

COTABATO CITY - Police arrested here a furniture vendor for possession of explosive at a police detachment Wednesday noon.Ali Samod, 30, was driving a truck loaded with furniture coming to the city proper when police manning CCI detachment check on his vehicle.A hand grenade was found beside Samod, a resident of Barangay Tukananes, Cotabato City.Samod denied he owned the grenade at that he only found it and plans to make money out of it.He was arrested and charged for violation of election gun ban law and illegal possession of explosive.
