Suspect in murder of anti-Kapa broadcaster out on bail

NORTH COTABATO  --- A key suspect in the July 10 murder of a broadcaster critical of the controversial Kapa money market scheme is out on a P500,000 bail.  

The release order for the detained Sotero Jacolbe, Jr. was issued Tuesday by Judge Arvin Sadiri Balagot of the Regional Trial Court Branch 17 in Kidapawan City.

Jacolbe was tagged, along with two others, in the fatal ambush on July 10 of broadcaster Eduardo Dizon of the Brigada FM station in Kidapawan City.

Magnitude 5.3 rocks Padada, Davao del Sur

GEN. SANTOS CITY - A magnitude 5.3 aftershock rocked Padada, Davao del Sur anew while many were preparing for dawn masses in various areas of Davao del Sur, South Cotabato and North Cotabato.

It was recorded at Magnitude 5.3, the strongest so far after the Magnitude 6.9 quake on Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tremor came at 4:18 a.m. and was traced 28 kilometers east of Padada.

Phivolcs said internsity was quite strong since the quake has depth of focus of only 9 kilometers.

Engr. Ampatuan assumes as DA undersecretary

MANILA - Mayor Zamsamin Ampatuan of Raja Buayan, Maguindanao was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as one of the undersecretaries of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

Yesterday, Ampatuan took his oath of office before Agriculture Sec. William Dar at DA central office in Quezon City.

"Thank you Mr. President for the trust," Ampatuan posted on his social media account after Pres. Duterte appointed him on December 3.  It was actually Ampatuan's 9th presidential appointment since he joined govenrment service.

Latest tremor escalate tension in North Cotabato villages 

NORTH COTABATO --- Tension in evacuation sites in Kidapawan City full of residents displaced by strong tremors that hit North Cotabato province early on soared anew following Sunday’s magnitude 6.9 tremor that jolted towns in nearby Davao del Sur.

The earthquake on Sunday damaged infrastructures in Davao Del Sur’s adjoining Padada, Matanao and Magsasay towns, causing the deaths of five residents.

2 drug peddlers arrested, P113k worth of drugs seized in Cotabato province

COTABATO CITY  – Anti-narcotics agents seized today more than P100,000 worth of suspected shabu and arrested two “target listed personalities” peddling illegal drugs in Pikit, Cotabato province Monday afternoon.

Joint agents of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Cotabato provincial police office and PNP Special Forces Company served the search warrants against Abu Matalam, 43 and Noel Rama in separate areas in Pikit.

Government forces seized P100 sachets of shabu with a market value of P102,000 from Matalam, a farmer and resident of Barangay Batulawan.

Strong quake leaves big cracks in Davao buildings

DAVAO CITY -- The 6.9 magnitude earthquake which hit the city and many areas in Southern Mindanao on Sunday afternoon have caused major cracks in various buildings in the city, the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported on Monday.

Based on initial findings, the CDRRMO said major cracks were found in some schools and establishments in the city. As a result, it said the city government had stepped up its assessment on the structural integrity of buildings following Sunday's earthquake.

Davao City sends rescuers to quake-hit DavSur town

DAVAO CITY -- Villagers of Padada town in Davao del Sur who were affected by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake on Sunday will be given immediate assistance by the city government here, an official said Sunday evening.

Acting Mayor Sebastian Duterte said he already discussed with Central 911 chief Emmanuel Jaldon the deployment of rescuers to the said town.

Padada was badly hit by the strong tremor which struck at 2:11 p.m. which displaced hundreds of families and damaged hundreds of properties.

Power supply in earthquake-stricken areas intact

COTABATO CITY --- Power transmission services of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) remained normal after a 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit southern provinces past 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

The NGCP, in an advisory sent via online Messenger to media outfits in southern regions, said there was no report of any damage to power transmission facilities in provinces were the tremor was felt.
