At least 7 persons massacred in Tupi, South Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY - At least seven persons, some belonging to a family, were killed by still unidentified men in an attack early Wednesday in a remote village of Tupi, South Cotabato, skestchy reports reaching today said.

Tupi Mayor Romeo Tamayo told DXOM-AM Radyo Bida and DXOM-Happy FM in an interview that the massacre site happened in Sitio Benigno Aquino, Barnagay Miasong, Tupi, South Cotabato.


Officials put up isolation facility in remote Basilan town

COTABATO CITY --- Local officials in Basilan’s largest town are not taking chances even as there is no confirmed coronavirus infection case yet in the island province.

The office of Sumisip Mayor Jul Adnan Hataman and the municipal health office have set up a COVID-19 isolation facility somewhere in the municipality as part of its war on coronavirus.

Hataman, chairperson of the Sumisip disaster risk reduction and management council, said Wednesday he is thankful to their provincial governor, Jim Salliman, for supporting their local COVID-19 containment efforts.


3 arrested for selling unbranded rubbing alcohol

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Three large-scale suppliers of rubbing alcohol in unmarked containers fell in separate police entrapment operations Tuesday.

Carina Arellano Caren, Mariejo Castillare Dizon and Peter Paul Distor, who also failed to show permits to engage in distribution of rubbing alcohol, are now in the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-12.

They were arrested one after another in separate stings Tuesday laid by CIDG-12 agents and personnel of the Department of Trade and Industry-12.


Thousands benefit from Lanao Sur "rolling stores"

COTABATO CITY --- Maranaw families benefited from the “rolling stores” roaming the towns of Lanao del Sur to sell cheap food supplies amid the province-wide anti-coronavirus quarantine lockdown.

More than a dozen stores on trucks had initially toured 13 towns in Lanao del Sur from March 26 to 31, from where Maranaws brought food supplies from operators, among them officials of local business groups.


Cop wounded in attack by curfew violators

COTABATO CITY --- Three quarantine curfew violators whom barangay officials reprimanded for refusing to go home wounded a police corporal in an ambush Sunday night in Datu Paglas, Maguindanao. 

Cpl. Yhamier Sablana, who sustained a bullet wound in his right shoulder, is now confined in a hospital. 

Sablana, a member of the Datu Paglas municipal police, and his companions were on their way to investigate on the reported roaming of three men in Barangay Damawato at about midnight Sunday.


"Rolling stores" dispatched to Lanao del Sur towns   

COTABATO CITY - The Lanao del Sur provincial police office today launched its “rolling stores” from where people in far-flung towns can buy cheap food supplies they need while under anti-COVID-19 quarantine. 

The stores on trucks, a common project of local entrepreneurs, the Lanao del Sur provincial police and the Department of Trade and Industry, is supported by the office of Gov. Mamintal Adiong, Jr.

COTABATO CITY -  While they are helping local residents by providing food relief at the midst of crisis from community quarantine due to pandemic virus COVID-19, they are also helping local vegetable farmers generate income.

Pigcawayan mourns the death of pilot-trainee frontliner in fight vs. COVID-19

PIGCAWAYAN, North Cotabato - The people of Pigcawayan, North Cotabato, led by Mayor Jean Dino D. Roquero, mourn the untimely demise of Edmark Agravante Jael who along with seven others perished in a plane crash Sunday night at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

"We are deeply saddened by the news of Edmark's passing. Our sincere condolences to the family, we know no words can ease your pain right now," the statement from the local government unit said.

Fire hits Cotabato City's Today's Commercial

COTABATO CITY - A fire of still unknown origin destroyed one of Cotabato City's oldest businees establishments at about past midnight today.

Arson investigators are still determining the cause and the cost of damages of the fire that hit Today's Commercial located along Andres Alonzo Avenue (formerly Magallanes Street), beside United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB).



Maguindanao councilman dies in freak accident; NoCot BPAT hacked to death

COTABATO CITY  – A village councilor has died on the spot after he was pinned underneath a dump truck he was fixing in Northern Kabuntalan, Maguindanao.

Anwar Omar, 36, village councilman of Barangay Sabaken, Northern Kabuntalan, Maguindanao was fixing a dump truck when the heavy truck tilted and fell on him. He died on the spot.

It took hours for the victim to be retrieved under the truck.  He was immediately buried by relatives according to Islamic rites.
