DENR-12, partners to celebrate SBPS Week 2020

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -  To celebrate Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (SBPS) Week in March, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Protected Area Management Board (PAMB-SBPS) and partners underscored activities through a press conference at Veranza Mall here.

The press conference was one of the highlights of the upcoming SBPS Week in March which also happens to be the commemoration of the SBPS 24th Anniversary.

DENR-12, partners release sea turtle in Sarangani Bay

MAITUM, SARANGANI PROVINCE – A female Olive Ridley Sea Turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) commonly known as "Pawikan" returned to its natural habitat after it was released recently in Sarangani Bay by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12 and its partners.

Kiamba Community ENR Officer Dr. Ali M. Hadjinasser together with Maitum Mayor Alexander Bryan Reganit, partner stakeholders, some personnel of the DENR and local government unit of Maitum witnessed the releasing of the marine species at the coastal waters of Sitio Saub, Maitum town on February 3.

DENR-12 personnel sighted thousands of waterbirds in Sultan Kudarat

TACURONG CITY – Thousands of various waterbird species were sighted at Lake Buluan in Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat during the recently conducted annual Asian Waterbird Census (AWC) activity of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12.

The AWC activity was spearheaded by Tacurong City Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) last January 22 to 23 to provide basis for estimates of waterbird population, determine changes in their numbers and improve knowledge of little-known waterbird species and wetland sites.

DENR-12 execs sign MOA with Kiamba LGU for waste analysis study

KIAMBA, South Cotabato - Environment officials in the Soccsksargen region have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the local government here and awarded financial assistance for the conduct of Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS).

No less than Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-12) Regional Executive Director Dr. Sabdullah C. Abubacar, CESO IV and Environment Management Bureau (EMB-12) Regional Director Engr. Omar M. Saikol signed the MOA during ceremonies in Kiamba on Thursday, June 23, 2020.

DENR-12 hosts 3rd eNGP Peoples Organizations’ Summit 2020

CITY OF KORONADAL – Some 160 People’s Organizations (POs) have participated in the 3rd enhanced National Greening Program (eNGP) Summit 2020 conducted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12 in Koronadal City last January 16 to 17, 2020. 

The activity aims to enhance and improve the implementation of eNGP through collaborative partnership with various POs, recognize achievements, and encourage POs to sustain the gains of eNGP for their benefits and the environment.

DENR Usec. Sampulna graces peoples organization summit in Koronadal

KORONADAL CITY - Environment Undersecretary for Enforcement and Muslim Affairs Jim O. Sampulna, CESO III graced the 3rd Enhanced National Greening Program (eNGP) People's Organizations (PO) Summit of DENR Region XII on January 16 in Koronadal City.

Usec. Sampulna encouraged the participants especially those who are under the Community Based Forest Management (CBFM) of eNGP to nurture and cultivate their land areas.

No looming threat of Mt. Apo eruption: Phivolcs

MANILA -- There are no imminent signs of unrest that might lead to the eruption of Mount Apo, the head of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Saturday.

"Right now, as we speak, no abnormal activity has been observed. We didn't see any different volcanic activity," Phivolcs director Renato Solidum Jr. said in a text message to the Philippine News Agency.

Mount Apo, an active stratovolcano in Mindanao, has no recorded eruption yet.

NAIA ops halted due to ash clouds from Taal eruption

MANILA -- Due to the presence of volcanic ash clouds on major traffic airways, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) temporarily suspended flights to/from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday night. 

In an advisory, CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued suspending departing flights from NAIA from 6:22 p.m. to 11 p.m., and arriving flights from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Classes in Metro Manila suspended due to Taal eruption

MANILA – Classes at all levels in Metro Manila on Monday (January 13) has been suspended due to ash fall from the phreatic eruption of Taal Volcano.

In an advisory on Sunday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the suspension of classes include all 17 cities within Metro Manila, aside from the southern provinces Cavite and Batangas, as well as Santa Rosa and Biñan, Laguna.

Injured baby serpent eagle rescued in Kidapawan City

KIDAPAWAN CITY — A couple rescued on Friday afternoon an injured baby eagle and turned it over to a local radio station.

Rebeca Bacat and her husband were walking by the roadside in Barangay Luvimin when they heard a loud chirping coming from a bushy area near rows of rubber trees.

She followed the source of the chirping and found the wounded baby bird, which she described as "looking like an eagle."

“I picked it up and wrapped it in handkerchief and turn it over to dxND Radio station,” Bacat said.
