Magnitude 5.4 rocks central Mindanao as aftershock of Magnitude 6.6 tremor

KIDAPAWAN CITY - A magnitude 5.4 aftershock rocks the Soccsksargen region anew at 4:38 this afternoon, the Phivolcs said.


4 killed in latest central Mindanao tremor

NORTH COTABATO --- A retired hospital worker was killed while more than 20 others were hurt when   a magnitude 6.6 earthquake jolted the province and nearby Mindanao regions on Tuesday morning.

Initial radio and police reports identified the fatality as Nestor Narciso, 67, who was hit by a concrete slab that fell from the second floor of a building in Koronadal City, capital of South Cotabato province.

Narciso was a former ambulance driver in the South Cotabato provincial hospital.

An area in Datu Montawal, Maguindanao had cracks following the quake.

Daig Elementary School in Tulunan, North Cotabato has collapsed.

Participants to the 2nd Diocesan Youth Congress in Mlang, North Cotabato sustained injuries and are confined at Mlang district hospital.



DTI freezes prices of goods in 4 tremor-affected areas 

COTABATO CITY --- The Department of Trade and Industry- 12 is now enforcing a “price freeze” for all consumer goods sold in four earthquake-stricken areas.

The move is meant to ease the plight of thousands of residents in Tulunan, Mlang and Makilala towns in in North Cotabato and in the provincial capital, Kidapawan City, that got dislocated by the October 16 magnitude 6.3 tremor, or foreshock, that jolted the four areas, followed by more than 800 aftershocks since.


South Cotabato to start observing Muslim holidays under PD 1083

KORONADAL CITY - A resolution seeking for the inclusion of the province in the observance of all Muslim legal holidays was approved by the provincial board of South Cotabato.

Provincial Board Member Eamon Matti, chair of the committee on legal matters, said the Sangguniang Panglalawigan has approved the resolution after meeting with representatives from National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF).

It was the NCMF that first brought up the idea to include South Cotabato in areas that observe Muslim holidays.


Magnitude 4.9 rocks Tulunan, North Cotabato Saturday night

KIDAPAWAN CITY - A magnitude 4.9 quake hits Tulunan, North Cotabato anew and Phivolcs data showed the epicenter of tonight's quake was traced in the same spot where the magnitude 6.3 originated last Wednesday.

Tectonic in origin, the tremor was traced 22 kilometers southeast of Tulunan that came at 7:44 p.m.

Intensity 3 was felt in Kidapawan City.


North Cotabato experiences strongest aftershock as magnitude 5.0 hits Tulunan anew

KIDAPAWAN CITY - The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) today recorded the strongest aftershock of the magnitude 6.3 tremor on Wedneeday night.

At 6:52 a.m. today, a magnitude 5.0 quake rocked Tulunan and North Cotabato province with the intensities felt as far as Gen. Santos City and Kiamba, Sarangani.

Phivolcs said the shallow tremor was traced 27 kilometers east of Tulunan.  It only has a depth of 12 kilometers.

Cops nabbed NPA leader blamed for burning road equipment in Sultan Kudarat

KORONADAL CITY  – Police authorities in the Soccsksargen region today announced the arrest of a ranking communist rebel who led the burning of PHP35-M worth of construction equipment in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat in 2015.

Brig. Gen. Alfred S. Corpuz, police regional director for Soccsksargen, said three other communist rebels were arrested before joint operatives of Sarangani police and the Philippine Army collared Jonie Calaba alias “Jepoy,” a resident of Sitio Tinitipan, Barangay Sta. Clara, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat.

GEN. SANTOS CITY -- Images show the devastation of a fire that hit one of Gen. SAntos City's popular malls - the Gaisano Mall of GenSan that went on fire following a magnitude 6.3 quake that hit most part of Mindanao on Wednesday night.


Magnitude 6.3 hits North Cotabato; mall ceiling falls

KIDAPAWAN CITY  – A magnitude 6.3 quake rocked North Cotabato Wednesday night, sending people out of their homes and mall goers hurt, mall on fire, 

Three fires also hit Kidapawan City and patients at hospitals in Kidapawan were rushed down to the city gymnasium adjacent to Kidapawan doctors hospital.

In a bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and seismology (Phivolcs), said the quake, tectonic in origin, came at 7:37 p.m. and was traced 22 kms east of Tulunan, North Cotabato.
