Owner-type jeep goes wayward in Kidapawan

KIDAPAWAN CITY - At least five persons were injured in a highway crash along the national highway in Barangay Paco, this city on Tuesday morning.

Reports reaching DXND Radyo Bida Kidapawan showed that the victims were from Digos City and heading to Midsayap, North Cotabato for a family reunion when the crash happened at 8 a.m.

The crash site is near ARC-2 housing subdivision.

It was not clear what triggered the vehicular crash.

Bangsamoro regional police has new director

COTABATO CITY  --- The new director of the Bangsamoro police assumed Tuesday, just after the region’s capital was placed under a decorated female officer, central Mindanao’s first ever.

Col. Portia Bañaga-Manalad, who graduated from the Philippine National Police Academy in 1995, is now overseeing the police’s peacekeeping and law-enforcement activities in all 37 barangays in Cotabato City.

She took over the city’s police directorship on Monday from Col. Michael Lebanan, also a graduate of the PNPA.

2 Lanao del Sur cops arrested for extortion

LANAO DEL SUR ---- Two policemen deployed in this province as punishment for their alleged criminal activities outside were nabbed and locked in jail Thursday for extortion.

Master Sgt. Erwin Amarellento Piquero and Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Romero Fabros of the municipal police office in Wao, Lanao del Sur fell in an entrapment laid by their companions and officials of the provincial police office, acting on a complaint by a Meranao resident named Laut Madale.

Another fire hits Cotabato City mega market

COTABATO CITY — A fire of still unknown origin destroyed the concrete stalls of the Cotabato City mega market, specially along Martinez Street at past 12 noon Friday, exactly one year and two days after a fire last year destroyed the two story building.

Arson investigators said the fire started in one of the stalls that sells plastic wares and dry goods.

The Bureau of Fire Protection put the fire under control about two hours later.

Nobody was injured in the incident.


2 hurt when trucks collide in Tupi, South Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY -- Two persons were injured in a vehicular crash in Tupi, South Cotabato early today involving a container van and aluminum van, police said.

Captain Samuel Bascon Jr, police chief of Tupi, said the driver of a truck that carries container van parked his vehicle by the roadside in Barangay Polunuling, Tupi, South Cotabato at past 5 a.m. He had the hazard lights on.

Bascon said apparently the driver of the aluminum van (license plate JES-750) did not see the parked container van beside the highway and hit its rear.


Police issue advisory on proliferation of alleged fraudulent investment schemes in Soccsksargen

Statement of PRO-12 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Eliseo Tam Rasco on investment schemes:

Despite our warnings and public advisories in the past months, people continue to fall prey to investment scams in Region 12. These fraudulent investment schemes have been brought to our attention as early as first quarter of this year.

Many people in SOCCSKSARGEN, some of them are even high ranking officials and members of the PNP, have been victimized and according to our estimates, billions of pesos have been lost to these fraudulent investment schemes.

Kinilala ni Kabacan police chief Major Realan Mamon Jr ang suspek na si Basser Makinsi Solaiman, 32 anyos at Taot Simbaga Salamat 19 anyos na kapwa nakatira sa Barangay Bualan, Kabacan, North Cotabato.


528 Pawikan hatchlings released in Sarangani Bay

KORONADAL CITY – Some 528 baby sea turtles made their way back home after being released to their natural habitat at Barangay Lumasal, Maasim, Saranggani on Friday, May 16 at around 5:30 in the afternoon.

The olive ridley sea turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea) were born at Maasim Pawikan Hatchery, the biggest number of hatchlings recorded since its establishment in 2015.
