T'BOLI, South Cotabato  – At least 20 persons were killed, 15 of them on the spot, and more than ten were injured when a cargo truck from a beach party fell off a creek Tuesday morning.

Mayor Dibu Tuan of T’boli said all the victims were on board an Isuzu Forward cargo truck heading for home from a night swimming activity in Gen. Santos City when its brake system malfunctioned at 9 a.m. while negotiating a sharp curve in Barangay Lamsalome.


Local chief execs signifies commitment on moral governance

COTABATO CITY  - The signing of the Pledge of Commitment towards Moral Governance capped the 3-day orientation and enhancement training on local legislation conducted by the Ministry of Interior and Local Government (MILG-BARMM) yesterday in Cotabato City.

The local chief executives from the different provinces and municipalities of BARMM signified their support in response to the call for moral governance.


Mindanao Star bus hits rear of cargo truck (wing van) in Toril, Davao City

DAVAO CITY - A unit of Mindanao Star bus hit the rear of a wing van along the national highway Toril, Davao City at about 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Traffic enforcers are still investigating the incident.

Several people, mostly passengers, were injured.

ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat  – Police eye extortion as the motive in Saturday’s bombing in front of the public market here that left seven persons injured, including a traffic enforcer and an off duty militiaman.

Lt. Colonel Joven Bagaybay, Isulan police director (not Lt. Colonel Junie Buenacosa as earlier reported), said the 7 a.m. blast came as the town police and the military were placed on heightened alert following rumors through text message of an impending bombing.

PNP acquires 10 new choppers

DAVAO CITY--The Philippine National Police (PNP) has acquired 10 new helicopters to further enhance its crime-fighting capability, an official said on Thursday. 

Lt. Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa, PNP deputy chief for operations, said the new helicopters worth PHP1.75 billion will be the police's first active air assets since 2009.

Gamboa said the new air assets consist of two training choppers costing PHP90 million each, seven single-engine units costing PHP250 million each, and a twin-engine unit costing PHP450 million.


PDEA agents arrest Marawi big time drug peddlers

MARAWI City -  Two suspects were arrested during joint anti-narcotic operation led by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM) that resulted to confiscation of P6.8 million worth of suspected shabu, Thursday. 

Director Juvenal Azurin, regional chief of PDEA-BARMM, said the operation was launched in Barangay Poblacion, Marawi City, at around 3:25 this afternoon.

“The suspects engaged our agents in dealing worth P2.2 Million peso payment for their contrabands,” he said.


3 farmers slain in Midsayap gun attack

MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato -- Three farmers were killed in an ambush by still unidentified gunmen in Barangay Tugal Tuesday night, police said.

The victims were fixing a water source for the irrigation in the village at past 7 p.m. when gunmen arrived on motorbike and opened fire on them.

Killed were Ogie Bantas, 40, Ismael Sumunsang, 40 and Mutalib Salungon.

Responding police found empty shells for M-14 rifle.

Wayward Toyota pick-up truck landed atop a house then nosedived to a terrace

KORONADAL CITY - A wayward Toyota pick-up truck leaped through a highway railings and landed atop a house then slid beside a concrete wall at past 12 midnight in Purok Lower Tuburan, Barangay Sta. Cruz, on Tuesday morning in this city.

The unidentified driver in his late 20s and from Norala, South Cotabato escaped unhurt.

Nobody in the house was injured.
