Isabela City LGU cracks whip on unregistered motorcycles

ISABELA CITY --- Authorities impounded dozens of unregistered motorcycles in a continuing crackdown since last week to rid the streets of abusive motorists and criminals on bikes.

The motorcycles were seized by local officials and city police personnel in joint operations ordered by the new city mayor, Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, acting on complaints by residents.

The first-termer Turabin-Hataman, as mayor, chairs the inter-agency Isabela City peace and order council.

4 tricycle passengers killed in Matalam highway mishap

NORTH COTABATO - Four people were instantly killed while three others were badly injured in a highway accident in Matalam town Saturday.

The fatalities were passengers of a tricycle a wayward silver Toyota Innova rammed head-on while on a stretch of the Cotabato-Davao Highway in Matalam, North Cotabato.

Three other tricycle passengers were badly injured in the collision.

The victims were immediately rushed by responding barangay officials and personnel of the Matalam municipal police to a hospital.

Probers zero in on "promising lead" on murder of broadcaster 

COTABATO CITY --- The Presidential Task Force on Media Security now have a “promising lead” that could put closure to Wednesday’s murder in Kidapawan City of radio commentator Eduardo Dizon, PTFoMS director Joel Egco said Satuday.

The 58-year-old Dizon was killed by gunmen on motorcycles while driving his car on his way home from a night program in the Brigada FM Station in Kidapawan City in North Cotabato province.

UNICEF launches U-Report in Bangsamoro Region

Cotabato City  – The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has launched in the Bangsamoro Region a free online messaging tool used to improve adolescent and youth engagement – the U-Report.

The U-Report uses polls, alerts, and collect real time responses. It empowers the youth and encourages them to be the voice of their communities.

Andrew Morris, UNICEF Philippines chief of field office in Mindanao, said “U-Report will now give adolescents and young people opportunity to make their views known in a much more powerful way.”

Maguindanao village chair, treasurer and 2 others ambushed in Cotabato City

COTABATO CITY – Unidentified gunmen ambushed today a Maguindanao village chair, his wife and two others, including the village treasurer, along the busy Notre Dame Avenue.

Kasan Sendad, a tricycle driver, said the victims were all on board a Toyota Vios car going to Notre Dame Avenue from Quezon Avenue at past 1:30 p.m.

North Cotabato authorities brace for aftershocks 

NORTH COTABATO --- Classes have been suspended in Kidapawan City and nearby towns in anticipation of possible aftershocks following a 5.3 magnitude earthquake Tuesday night.

City education officials announced the temporary suspension of classes via the popular Catholic station dxND in Kidapawan City, capital of North Cotabato province.

No one was reported hurt in the tremor that shook the city and nearby towns, according to Kidapawan City’s local government unit.

Schools in North Cotabato towns close to Kidapawan City have also been suspended.

Magnitude 5.6 quake hits Makilala, North Cotabato ; 10 aftershocks as of 10:40 p.m.

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Ten aftershocks followed the Magnitude 5.6 earthquake that hit mainland Mindanao at 8:36 tonight, the state volcanology office said at 10:18 p.m.

The latest tremor as of posting was recorded at Magnitude 4.8 coming at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday. Still tectonic in origin, the 10:12 pm quake was traced 7 kilometers from Makilala, North Cotabato.

The first tremor with a magnitude 5.6 struck Makilala, North Cotabato that sent people running in the streets during the tremor.

Another BARMM parliament member die of heart ailment

COTABATO CITY --- Another representative of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front to the Bangsamoro parliament died of an illness Tuesday, the second since March.

Lawyer Abdul Dataya, an ethnic Maguindanaon, was one of 41 representatives of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front to the 80-member parliament of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Dataya succumbed to a heart ailment Tuesday morning, according to his colleagues in the BARMM parliament.

Gunman shoots Bombo Radyo studio in Gen. Santos City

GEN. SANTOS CITY  – Unidentified gunman strafed the broadcast studio of Bombo Radyo Philippines here Wednesday night, police said.

Lt. Colonel Aldrin Gonzales, speaking for police in the Soccsksargen region, told the www.ndbcnews.com.ph that nobody was hurt in the strafing of Radio Station DXES (Radyo Bombo-GenSan).

He said Brig. Gen. Eliseo Tam Rasco, police director for the Soccsksargen region based in this city, has ordered the police to identify the perpetrator and bring the suspects before the bar of justice.
