4 top BIFF officials surrender in Maguindanao

Four top-ranking officials of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters under the Bungos faction laid down their arms in Maguindanao on Thursday morning.

Military troops identified the returnees as Ibrahim Odin, BIFF’s 3rd Brigade Commander, 2nd Division; Diya Musa, 1st Battalion Commander, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division; Daud Paglas, admin officer, 1st Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, and Yasser Abunawas, son of Abunawas Damiyog and operation officer, 1st Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division.

Kin of Ampatuan massacre victims relieved, surprised with verdict

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- A tense silence gripped the crowd inside a chapel at the old Catholic parish novitiate here as the guilty verdict was finally meted on Thursday morning against the principal suspects in the grisly Ampatuan massacre.

The muted cries came as the crowd of around 100 people--composed of media workers and family members of the slain journalists in the massacre--watched in disbelief as several other suspects were “unexpectedly” pronounced as “not guilty” by the court.

Palace elated justice served to Maguindanao massacre victims

MANILA — Malacañang on Thursday welcomed the court's ruling that favors the 58 victims of the massacre in Ampatuan town in Maguindanao province 10 years ago.

In a press conference, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo was convinced that the court's final verdict was based on the evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defense.

Andal Jr, brothers guilty for massacre of 57 people in Maguindanao

MANILA – A special court on the Maguindanao massacre case today laid down and it found Datu Andal Ampatuan Jr, former mayor of Datu Saudi Ampatuan and his siblings guilty for the murder of 57 people. 

In a televised promulgation of decision, the Quezon City Regional Trial Court also found guilty Andal Jr's brothers former Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) governor Datu Zaldy “Puti” U. Ampatuan and Datu Anwar Ampatuan Sr.

RTC Judge Jocelyn Reyes also also found guilty Datu Anwar Sajid “Datu Ulo” Ampatuan and Datu Anwar “Datu Ipi” Ampatuan Jr. guilty.

Magnitude 4.5 quake rocks Davao del Sur at 8:38pm

DIGOS CITY - An aftershock rocks Davao del Sur anew.  It was recorded by Phivolcs at 4.5 and traced 28kms west of Padada, Davao del Sur.

Cotabato City mayor suspends classes for Monday, Dec. 16 due to quake

ANNOUNCEMENT From the Office of the City Mayor.

Due to the earthquake that was experienced in the city earlier, CLASS IN ALL LEVELS, IN BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS, WILL BE SUSPENDED TOMORROW, DECEMBER 16, 2019.

I have already instructed our City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, together with our Barangay Officials, to conduct inspection of the school buildings to ensure the safety of our students and teachers.

Meanwhile, aftershocks are expected within the day according to PHILVOCS.

UPDATE: 6-year-old girl, 3 others die Davao del Sur quake

KORONADAL CITY - A six year old girl was killed after a concrete wall collapsed as the Magnitude 6.9 rocked Davao del Sur Sunday afternoon.

The victim was a resident of Barangay Asinan, Matanao, Davao del Sur.

The Matanao municipal disaster office said the concrete part of the girl's home fell during the tremor.

Three persons were also killed after the Padada public market collapsed during the quake, according to Padada municipal disaster office.
