1 year after Mamasapano incident, what now?

MAMASAPANO, Maguindanao – The sound of silence was deafening on Monday when this writer visited the place. The area, that claimed the lives of 66 persons generally, remains the same, a quiet shallow river, huge dry fields that easily soften and turned muddy riverside in a 30-minute moderate rain. This is Barangay Tukanalipao, with the river and the vast corn fields as silent witnesses to the bloody January 25 carnage that left elite police unit, Moro rebels and civilians dead. A mission was accomplished, that was to put the country’s most wanted foreign terrorist, at the cost of 66 lives.

Mindanao solon seeks declaration of Jan. 25 as National Day of Mourning in memory of SAF 44

MANILA -- A Mindanao lawmaker has proposed to declare January 25 of every year as a National Day of Mourning in memory of the 44 brave and gallant members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) who died in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last year.Rep. Zajid G. Mangudadatu (2nd District, Maguindanao) raised the proposal through House Bill 6320, saying the nation should dedicate Jan. 25 every year to remember the 44 brave and heroic members of the Philippine National Police-SAF who died in Mamasapano.


NGCP facility bombed in North Cotabato, tower not toppled

ALEOSAN, North Cotabato – Unidentified
men bombed another transmission tower of the National Grid Corporation (NGCP)
in Aleosan, North Cotabato Thursday night but the steel tower was not toppled,
police said.

The two improvised explosive devices
that went off at 11:58 p.m. damaged two legs of NGCP Tower No. 63, according to
Senior Inspector Jun J. Napat, Aleosan town police chief.

The tower remained standing, the
blasts only damaged two of its four feet,” Napat said.

The incident also did not trigger

men long wanted by law for a string of robbery cases in South Cotabato, police

With big projects in the pipeline, ARMM expects more investments, jobs in 2016

COTABATO CITY – The Regional Board of Investments in theAutonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (RBOI-ARMM) is expecting to draw more investments this year.Atty. Ishak Mastura, RBOI-ARMM chairperson, said the agency is targeting to generate at least P900 million worth of investments and 900 new jobs in 2016, conservative figures considering what the regional government has achieved last year.RBOI-ARMM posted P6.5 billion worth of new projects in 2015, way over its original investments target of only P700 million announced early last year.


Daily rational brownout resumes as Cotabato Light gets only 21 MW

COTABATO CITY -- The Cotabato Light and Power Company (Cotabato Light) today announced it has scheduled rotational power interruption due to limited supply from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). There's a probability of 1-2 hours of rotational interruption in all feeders during peak hours due to limited supply allocation today of21.6 megawatt only, Arlene Hepiga, Cotabato Light branding and corporate communication staff, said in a statement.Power demand for Cotabato Light franchise is 25 MW.
