Iran attacks US military bases in Iraq

Iran has launched "more than a dozen" ballistic missiles against two Iraqi military bases housing U.S. forces, the Pentagon said Tuesday. Iran said the attack was in retaliation to the airstrike that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, one of the most powerful figures in the Islamic Republic.


Sultan Kudarat ex-vice gov slain in ambush

TACURONG CITY  – Motorcycle-riding gunmen ambushed and killed Tuesday the former vice governor of Sultan Kudarat along the national highway in Lambayong town.

Former Sultan Kudarat Vice Gov. Rolando “Rolly” Recinto was driving his Mitsubishi pick-up (LDF-237) heading for home in Lambayong town from Tacurong City when shot by unidentified gunmen at past 2 p.m. along the national highway in Barangay Bilumin.

Responding police from a nearby police rushed Recinto to a hospital in Tacurong City but radio reports said he was declared dead on arrival.


Gov. Catamco convenes dept heads to expedite processing of docs for Mlang airport

KIDAPAWAN CITY – North Cotabato Gov. Nancy A. Catamco has ordered concerned department heads to expedite the processing of documents to comply with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) requirements relative to the earlier pronouncement of support by Duterte for the operation of Central Mindanao airport.

The order came on her first management committee meeting Monday with chiefs of offices of the provincial government of North Cotabato.


15-year-old boy gunned down on New Year's Day in Pres. Quirino, SK

KIDAPAWAN CITY — Gunmen riding tandem on a motorbike shot to death a boy in President Quirino town, Sultan Kudarat, a few hours after the New Year revelry, a police official said.

Police Captain Jessie Silva, President Quirino town police head, identified the victim as Jade Nathaniel Pico, 15, a resident of Barangay Buenaflor, Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat.

Pico succumbed to  multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of the body, Capt. Silva said, adding that the shooting incident took place in Purok 1, Barangay Sinakulay at about 10 a.m.


Benjie Tan, Pinoy engineer who connected PH to Internet, dies

MANILA - A low key Filipino engineer who installed and switched on the "Cisco router" that allowed the Philippines to connect to the Internet for the first time 25 years go, is gone.

Engr. Benjamin “Benjie” Tan, 60, dies of cancer on Swx, 26 at St. Luke Medical Cednter, the Newsbytes.PH reported on Friday.

Newsbytes.PH reported that according to fellow Xavier School alumnus and former tech journalist Edison Ong, Tan was confined in the hospital thrice this year for pneumonia and for radiotherapy to treat a lymph node mass that grew in his abdomen.


Army lieutenant, sergeant dead, 5 wounded in Lanao Sur ambush

COTABATO CITY --- An Army lieutenant and a sergeant were killed while five others were wounded in an ambush in Pagayawan town in Lanao del Sur on Tuesday morning.

1Lt. Mark Linne Banua and Sgt. Jhanjihan Carumba of the 55th Infantry Battalion under the Army’s 103rd Brigade  based in Marawi City died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds.

The slain soldiers and their companions were attacked by gunmen while patrolling at a secluded area in Brgy Bandaraingud in Pagayawan town in Lanao del Sur.


Blast victims in Cotabato City, Libungan, North Cotabato

COTABATO CITY - At least 17 persons, including eight soldiers, were hurt after one of two teenagers on a motorbike tossed a fragmentation grenade toward an Army truck along the national highway in front of DXMS and Mindanao Cross offices.

Catamco condemns Libungan, Cotabato City bombings

Bombings in Cotabato City and Municipality of Libungan on December 22, 2019 tonight. 

The bombings in the Municipality of Libungan and in Cotabato City have struck another blow to our people’s sense of security that is still reeling from the losses, damages and trauma of the recent earthquakes.

I vehemently condemn these attacks on our fellow Cotabateños. Let us keep in mind that these terrorist acts aim to instill fear and to spread panic. Therefore, I call on everyone to remain calm and to stay vigilant. We need to muster our courage and to strongly resist fear.


Cotabato Mayor Guiani-Sayadi statement on Sunday night bombing that hurt 16

Tonight is a sad and unfortunate night for all Cotabatenios.

As of this time, 16 are reported wounded after a grenade explosion transpired at Tantawan and Quezon Avenue area earlier tonight. Among the victims are elements of the 5th Special Forces Battalion who were on stand by at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral tasked to secure the churchgoers while others were civilians who were just passing by the area.


Powerful blast rocks Cotabato City 

COTABATO CITY --- A number of people, among them patrolling soldiers, got hurt in an explosion that ripped through a busy spot in the city’s downtown just after dusk today.

Responding probers from the Cotabato City police and intelligence agents from the Army’s 6th Infantry Division told reporters an explosive went off inside a passenger vehicle while in transit along Sinsuat Avenue here, near the broadcast center of the Catholic Station dxMS.

Army and police bomb experts are still trying to determine what kind of explosive was used in the attack.
