Volunteers, gov't forces clean Jolo cathedral

JOLO - Government forces, civilian volunteers and Church workers helped clean up the debris inside and outside the Our Lady of Mount Carmel cathedral on Friday in an effort to bring back life of the injured Church. The clean-up was jointly conducted by soldiers, police, fire officers, volunteers, church workers, including non-Christian volunteers after authorities concluded the physical investigation of the deadliest attack on the place of worship.Moro women also joined the clean-up.Below are the images taken by Bobby Diana.

The Jolo PNP corrected itself and lowered an earlier death toll of 27 to 20. It said it was due to double counting.JOLO, Sulu - The death toll in the Jolo Cathedral bombings has reached 27 dead and 77 have been injured.Of the fatalities,seven were soldiers and 20 civilians who were inside the Church and those outside and across the street during the secondary explosion.The first blast occurred inside Our Lady of Mt. Carmel cathedral while a mass was going on at 8:28 a.m. The second bomb exploded at the carpark about 8:44 a.m.

COTABATO CITY -- Five soldiers and three civilians were killed when two power bombs exploded outside the Jolo cathedral at 8:28 this morning.Jolo Vicariate Administrator Fr. Romeo Saniel, OMI, president of Notre Dame of Jolo College (NDJC) told the five soldiers belonged to 35th Infantry Battalion.Six other soldiers from 35th IB and a civilian were also injured in the blast at the cathedral main gate.Reports said the first improvised bomb exploded inside the Church.
