Duterte blew chance to unite Filipinos amid pandemic — Bishop Bagaforo

MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte had a massive chance to push for unity and solidarity amid the coronavirus health crisis and he blew it, a Catholic bishop said.

Reacting to Duterte’s fifth State of the Nation Address, Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo said the pandemic could have been the “silver lining” for the government to push for a whole-society response towards solidarity.

“But pride, prejudice and power prevailed over better judgment and people welfare,” said Bagaforo, the national director of Caritas Philippines.


3 new COVID-19 cases in Soccsksargen region, 12 recoveries

COTABATO CITY - The Department of Health in the Soccsksargen region today reported three new COVID-19 patients and a dozen recoveries.

With three new cases, the region now has 198 confirmed patients. They are from Sultan Kudarat and Gen. Santos City.

6 new COVID cases recorded in Region 12

COTABATO CITY - Six more persons who tested positive to Covid-19 in Region 12 was recorded as of Tuesday evening, raising the total number of coronavirus patients in the Soccsksargen region to 179.

Five of the six were from Gen. Santos City and one in North Cotabato.

DOH-12 also reported that the 79th patient, a 23-year-old male from Pigcawayan, North Ctoabato has recovered from the disease.




92 CRMC medical workers undergoing 14-day quarantine

COTABATO CITY - Ninety-two health workers of the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC) here have been placed under 14-day quarantine after being exposed to a boy from Lanao del Sur who died and was found positive of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The CRMC, according to Dr. Helen Yambao, chief of hospital ng CRMC, will have to undergo a week-long shutdown for decontamination.


79 SLIs in BARMM tested positive to COVID-19

COTABATO CITY - Seventy nine Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) rerouted from Cagayan de Oro to Maguindanao have been tested positive of the virus, officials of the Bangsamoro Region today said.

BARMM Interior Minister Naguib Sinarimbo said the number of patients may increase depending on the results of another batch of LSIs subjectd to swab tests.

"The results of the remaining batch composed of 245 persons will soon be released," Sinarimbo said.


Blast rocks near Maguindanao police provincial office in Shariff Aguak town tonight

SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao - Blast rocked near the town police station here at 8:30 tonight. 

Anwar Kuit Emblawa, secretary to Mayor Marop Ampatuan and designated spokesman and town Information Officer, confirmed to the explosion.

"Mayor Marop Ampatuan condemned the bomb attackers and vowed to assist the victims," Emblawa said, said of the blast that occured near the police provincial office in Camp Datu Akilan Ampatuan, Datu Hofer town.


3-year-old boy, 5 others new COVID-19 patients in Region 12

KORONADAL CITY - Six new cases of COVID-19 positive, including a 3-year-old boy, have been added to the rising number of coronavirus patients in the Soccsksargen region, the Dept of Health reported tonight.

Of the six new caseS, four were from South Cotabato, one in Sultan Kudarat and the boy in North Cotabato.  Except for the boy, all the other patients have travelled to Manila and all in stable condition.

Police officer is Tawi-Tawi's first COVID-19 patient

TAWI-TAWI  — A police officer becomes the first coronavirus disease (COVID-19) positive in TAwi-Tawi province, the provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) said in a statement.

The patient is a 44-year-old male personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

He was an identified locally stranded individual (LSI) with travel history from COVID-19 infected areas namely San Isidro in Quezon City, Zamboanga City and Basilan.

The IATF said he arrived at Bongao Port in Tawi-Tawi on June 30, asymptomatic and is now isolated.

Maguindanao mayor survives roadside bombing

COTABATO CITY  – A town mayor in a hostile town in Maguindanao today cheated death after unidentified suspect set off a roadside bomb in South Upi, Maguindanao Monday afternoon.

South Upi Mayor Reynalbert Insular said his black Mitstubishi pick-up sustained minor damage after a powerful improvised bomb went off at past 3 p.m. at the back of the town hall.

Insular was from Cotabato City and had just arrived in South Upi.  He decided to stay home and his driver was to park the pick-up vehicle at the back of the town hall when the bomb went off.
