BARMM power coops gets boom trucks from Japan

COTABATO CITY --- Two of the six boom trucks the Japanese government gave this week to six power cooperatives in the Bangsamoro region went to Basilan where there is an urgent need for it.

There has been an influx lately to Basilan of investors requiring power for industries they intend to put up, among them the transnational Unifruitti and partner Lamitan Banana Corporation that are to jointly put up a 1,000-hectare Cavendish banana farm in Lamitan City.  

Congressman Hataman now House deputy speaker

COTABATO CITY --- Officials were elated with the election of Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman as deputy speaker, certain he now has better leverage to sustain the dividends of the southern peace process.

Hataman was governor of the now defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao for seven years prior to his election as congressman in Basilan province last May 13.

Radio reports on Tuesday night said Hataman, a full-blooded Moro, was voted house deputy speaker earlier the same day.

Another Pinoy pilgrim dies in Mecca

A fifth pilgrim named Kiram Macapalao Rasuman, 62 year-old male, from Lumba Bayabao, Lanao del Sur, died inside his tent in Mina today (Monday Manila time)

He was a part of Shiekh Abdul Radid Said, and was referred to the NCMF Medical Team led by Dr. Abdulnasser Masorong Jr, due to loss of consciousness. He was a known hypertensive with Coronary Artery Disease, on maintenance medications with good compliance.

Eid in Basilan, other ARMM provinces peaceful

BASILAN --- The Eid’l Adha celebration on Sunday in the island province of Basilan was peaceful and officials attribute the feat to the cooperation of local officials, religious leaders, the police and military.

Gov. Jim Salliman said Monday he is thankful to the Philippine National Police and the Western Mindanao Command for the security provided during the outdoor congregational Eid’l Adha worship activities in Basilan’s 11 towns and its two cities, Lamitan and Isabela.

Marawi-crisis affected families need sustained livelihood opportunities, food security

COTABATO CITY - Over two years after the Marawi crisis, displaced families, particularly those living in tents and in host communities, continue to call for food secutity and sustained livelihood opportunities.

Elderly Amena, a mother of four with seven grandchildren remains to be in dire need and is unsure of what lies ahead after losing a house and source of income following the siege that happened in May 2017.

“Life in the tent had has been rough. If we can’t be back home, it would be more difficult for us,” teary-eyed 52-year-old Amena says.

BARMM chief renews call for moral gov’t on Eid’l Adha

COTABATO CITY - Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) interim Chief Minister Ahod “Murad” Ebrahim renewed his call for moral governance during the celebration on Sunday here of the 2019 Eid’l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).

“Ills in society and public instrumentalities in the Bangsamoro region will surely fizzle out in an atmosphere of moral governance,” said Ebrahim, who also heads the 12,000-strong Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

6th ID commander hosts Eid worship rite

MAGUINDANAO --- The Army’s 6th Infantry Division today, August 11, 2019, again opened Camp Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao to Muslim worshipers for their morning outdoor congregational Eid’l Adha worship rite.

The commander of 6th ID, Major Gen. Diosdado Carreon, spoke to worshipers about the importance of religious solidarity among Filipinos in a brief message after the event, capped off with distribution of food by Christian soldiers to Muslims who prayed together on the division parade ground.

BTA to use ₱30B funds to improve social services in barangay levels

COTABATO CITY  – The Bangsamoro Transition Authority will use ₱30 billion in unprogrammed funds to improve the quality of social services in the barangay levels of the Bangsamoro autonomous region.

The unprogrammed funds was meant for the implementation of the Bangsamoro Organic Law in the 2019 General Appropriations Act, according to Local Government Minister Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo.

COTABATO CITY  – The minister of education in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has named a lady peace advocate to head the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA-BARMM).

Director Ruby Andong assumed office Friday after Minister Mohaqher Iqbal of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE-BARMM) announced her appointment during the opening program of the regional skills competition 2019 at Barangay Rebuken, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.
